April 2, 2002 MOHA Legislative Update
CON-CON LANDS
Rep. Ozment's House bill has a hearing in the Ways and Means Committee
today. In the Senate, Sen. Moe's bill passed unanimously. The legislation
will result in 102,000 acres of con-con land being designated as
WMA's. ATV trails are part of the compromise, as are increased PILT
payments to the three affected counties.
SHOOTING RANGE PROTECTION
Still no compromise. MOHA remains supportive of Rep. Hackbarth
and his efforts to secure passage of compromise language yet this
session. ROBO-DUCK BAN Sen. Doug Johnson's amendment is still on
the Senate version of the omnibus game and fish policy bill. Rep.
Ozment's House bill is on the House floor. Amendments to his House
version of the bill are expected to be numerous and may or may not
include a robo-duck ban amendment.
ATV ISSUES
Rep. Hackbarth's bill is expected to be up in the House this week.
Additional ATV amendments are expected. The bill is the funding
bill and would allot $1.25 million for increased enforcement and
environmental review on ATV trails in state forests.
